What is a Folk Commission? 

Historically, commissioned art and music was largely for the wealthy and powerful. Folk Commissions are my attempt to turn that tradition toward everybody else. 

You bring me a piece of your life and I’ll bring you my experience as a musician. Together, we make something one of a kind. 

Your life, your experiences, your memories, your inner world…these are beautiful and rich sources of art. You don’t have to be a Medici. You just have to be folk. 

How does it work? 

We start with a conversation. You don’t need to have a fully formed idea or know anything about music. Maybe there’s a person you want to celebrate or a place that means something to you, or a memory you want to revisit. 

You can bring stories, photographs, voice memos, poems, a feeling, etc. We’ll talk it out, get curious, and experiment together. Then I’ll take what we’ve tended and create an original recording. 

How much does this cost?

Part of the idea behind this is to make commissioned art available to more people, so commissions are offered on a pay-what-you-can basis. 

If you have the means to pay more, your support helps me keep buying cabbage and helps makes commissions possible for people with less. And if your “budget” is smaller, that doesn’t mean your story is any less worthy of becoming music.
